Sinned Too Much For Forgiveness

Question --- Is There Ever A Point With God That You've Sinned Too Many Times, Each Time Asking For Forgiveness, But Continuing The Pattern? I Hope This Makes Sense.

Answer --- Good question. Not only does it make a great deal of sense, it hits homes to more Christians than we would like to admit.

To answer this question, it will be necessary for us to firmly believe that "God Is A Just And Fair God And Never Requires of Us That Which He Himself Is Not Willing To Do". It is also necessary to remember that there is a difference between "Repentance" and an "Apology". Repentance means that we sincerely want to change our ways or lifestyle. An apology merely means that we are sorry we got caught.

With that in mind, let me point you to Jesus as our example. Jesus teaches us in Luke 17:4, "And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him." Question, "Do You Think That Jesus Would Teach Us To Do Something That He Himself Would Not Do?" Of course not. It may be hard to believe that God loves us enough that He would forgive us seven times in one day for the same sin. The disciples had the same problem. It was so hard for the disciples to comprehend this type of love, that in the very next verse they prayed, "And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith." (Luke 17:5).

However, this is not a licenses to sin. Romans 6:1-2, "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? {2} God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Our love for the Lord and His love for us should cause us to turn from sin and desire to live for Him. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15, "For the [love] of Christ [constraineth] us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again."

Yes, we can be glad and rejoice that God loves us and is faithful to His Word. Even though it may be a love so great that it is hard for us to comprehend.

1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is [faithful] and [just] to forgive us sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
